Another weird one, I know. But I’d heard this was a delicacy in Iceland. I couldn’t NOT try it. I was there anyway, and it was on the menu in front of me. If only somebody had warned me what I was signing up to.

This was a major dream of mine. I’ve loved his music for as long as I can remember. I had all his albums, listened to all his podcasts and watched YouTube videos of his DJ sets all over the world with anticipation and excitement. Every time I spoke to somebody who had seen him live, an overwhelming feeling of jealousy and slight hatred washed over me.

When you’re in the middle of the Sahara Desert, your options are pretty limited when it comes to food. Basic vegetables and meat is pretty much all you’ll find. It’s 50°C during the day, so hot food is hardly what you’re craving. But immersing into local customs is the only way to appreciate other cultures.

Stories have been written about this place. Photos seemingly never did it justice. The Sahara was an almost mythical destination that I was determined to see with my own eyes. And as far as exceeding expectations goes, it did a mighty good job.

Pork knuckle, or “Stelze” as it’s known in Austria, is basically a heart attack waiting to happen. It’s also a very traditional dish, usually accompanied by various types of cabbage, potato and beer. Because obviously when you’re eating several kilograms-worth of meat, what you really need is a side dish…

Be A Bartender For A Night
- May 22, 2010
- Party
So many people I knew had at one stage of their lives done some form of bartending. Whether at a club, bar, pub, warehouse party, house party or friend’s birthday. They had been in charge of the drink-pouring, and done a (mostly) great job. But it’s more than that. The lure of bartending comes from the stories you hear from the bartenders themselves.

One thing I discovered about Scotland: you can get anything you want deep-fried. But when they told me about deep fried Mars Bars, I did a double take. We genuinely got warned about the potential side affects you might experience after eating one, and were recommended to just share one. But fuck that! We decided to jump into the deep end and deal with the consequences later.

Regardless of how much the thought of haggis absolutely revolts me, it had to happen. If you’ve never heard of haggis, it’s a traditional Scottish dish comprised of sheep’s pluck (heart, liver and lungs), then traditionally encased in the animal’s stomach and cooked for three hours before being generously scooped onto a plate and served to you.

All the people who didn’t make it… I was terrified.
