So many people I knew had at one stage of their lives done some form of bartending. Whether at a club, bar, pub, warehouse party, house party or friend’s birthday. They had been in charge of the drink-pouring, and done a (mostly) great job. But it’s more than that. The lure of bartending comes from the stories you hear from the bartenders themselves.

Deep Fried Mars Bar

One thing I discovered about Scotland: you can get anything you want deep-fried. But when they told me about deep fried Mars Bars, I did a double take. We genuinely got warned about the potential side affects you might experience after eating one, and were recommended to just share one. But fuck that! We decided to jump into the deep end and deal with the consequences later.

Haggis

Regardless of how much the thought of haggis absolutely revolts me, it had to happen. If you’ve never heard of haggis, it’s a traditional Scottish dish comprised of sheep’s pluck (heart, liver and lungs), then traditionally encased in the animal’s stomach and cooked for three hours before being generously scooped onto a plate and served to you.

They call Old Trafford the ‘Theatre of Dreams’. It’s home to one of the world’s most recognised sporting teams – Manchester United. My dad always supported them, so naturally, I was raised as a supporter too. And given my love of football, it was only a matter of time before I went to a live game.
