They call Old Trafford the ‘Theatre of Dreams’. It’s home to one of the world’s most recognised sporting teams – Manchester United. My dad always supported them, so naturally, I was raised as a supporter too. And given my love of football, it was only a matter of time before I went to a live game.
Of course, getting tickets to the game is a challenge in itself. Unless you’re an existing member, it’s incredibly challenging to get to a game. Especially when it’s the last game of the season, and there’s a chance the team could be lifting the trophy on home turf. We weren’t deterred, however. Luckily for us, a friendly gentleman outside the stadium sold us the tickets belonging to Miss A. O’Connor and Mr. B. O’Connor for a cool £125 each. Neither of us had any issue being the O’Connor’s if that got us inside the stadium!
The stadium itself was incredible. You can’t begin to imagine how well-kept the entire ground is. It looked like there had never been a game played on it, as if it was brand new! And the atmosphere – all the songs, chants and constant cheering. There wasn’t a moment spent quietly.
To keep things particularly interesting, we were sitting at the Stretford End (the west end) of the stadium. This happens to be where all the fanatics sit, so we were in good – and incredibly loud – company. We wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else.
Manchester United ended up winning 4-0 in a great game against Stoke City. However, simultaneously, Chelsea won their game 8-0 to win the title by one point. While this soured the end of the day somewhat, we were both completely overwhelmed. What an unbelievable day. The after-party in Manchester was pretty sweet too…
