Sahara Desert

Stories have been written about this place. Photos seemingly never did it justice. The Sahara was an almost mythical destination that I was determined to see with my own eyes. And as far as exceeding expectations goes, it did a mighty good job.

It’s sheer expanse was mind-boggling. The colours were breathtaking. The heat was suffocating.  I drank over five litres of fluid in one day and didn’t go to the bathroom even once.

I spent most of my time trying to remind myself that this was real and that I was really here. We drove quad bikes through the dunes, lounged by a pool in the middle of the world’s largest desert, met with locals for a cultural education and rode on camels to the top of the enormous dunes to watch the sun set over a sea of sand. It was so quiet and still I could actually hear myself think. What a truly beautiful place.
