Swimming In A Nightclub

Picture this: You’re on the beautiful island of Mykonos in Greece. It’s July – peak season. It’s 25°C at 11pm. You’re on your way to what was for many years one of the best clubs in the world. It’s completely outdoors, full of beautiful and tanned people, and there’s a huge swimming pool in the middle.

David Guetta comes on at around 1am, and the place starts to groove as the drinks continue to flow. I’m surrounded by old friends and new friends. The beach is behind us, the stage is in front of us, and the swimming pool is next to us.

It’s really only a matter of time before somebody jumps in. Closely followed by a second, third, fourth and fiftieth. At this point, I’m ready to tick off another bucket list item. I take my shoes off, give my phone to one of my friends, and jump in head first.

The water is salty and warm, but the music is still loud and the mood is high. We’re all free. We’re all happy. We’re all alive. In that moment, there was nothing more that we wanted.

And then, with the beach behind us, the sun started to rise…
