I’m not entirely sure why I’ve always wanted to try this, but a part of me is very curious about food. It definitely wasn’t something I was expecting to encounter, but I got my opportunity to try whale meat (Minke whale, specifically) in Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik.

My friend Dan and I decided that Iceland was such a beautiful country, but overlooked by so many in their travel plans. For some reason we were both drawn to this place. So, after making the long (long, long… long) trek, we were sitting in a restaurant preparing to order dinner when we both noticed they had “Smoked Minke Whale” on the menu. Suffice to say I was intrigued and excited to try something so different. Especially considering it was served with berry jam. Odd.

In summary, it was remarkably weird tasting. It has a potent flavour and was unlike any other meat I’ve ever tasted. It’s certainly not one of my favourites, but hey… I ticked it off the list.
