Test Drive A Ridiculously Expensive Car

There’s nothing better than unleashing the full power of a sports car. Unfortunately for most people, being able to afford one is the tricky part. So while I try to get my finances in order, I figured the best way of ticking this off the list in the meantime is just to test drive one.
We were in a small lakeside town outside of Munich called Tegernsee. We were staying at the most amazing hotel – Seehotel Überfahrt – that was actually renowned for its 3 Michelin-starred resaurant, Überfahrt Restaurant. We didn’t realise it when we booked, but it seemed to be a playground retreat for the rich. It’s breathtaking views, jaw-dropping spa and outstanding service still paled in comparison to their greatest asset – their cars.
The Seehotel Überfahrt has an entire garage of cars that hotel guests can rent for the day, including a few performance cars such as the Audi RS5, RS6, RS7 and R8. And since we had spent a pretty penny at their heavily-awarded restaurant, they decided to let us rent the cars free of charge.
The man who gave us the keys very quickly understood who he was dealing with, smiled, and pulled out a map to show us the best places to really get the most out of the cars. He showed us backstreets, windy roads, the less-packed parts of the Autobahn, and other areas that we could freely push the cars to their limits.
We ended up getting the R8 up to 310km/h before deciding to take our foot off the accelerator. It’s not that it couldn’t go any faster – it could. Very, very easily. At that point we were just getting a little bit nervous (not to mention the closing speed on the cars in front of you). We also managed to get the RS6 up to 270km/h. Here’s the video of us opening up the R8 on the Autobahn:
We all survived and returned the cars in one piece. It was, without a doubt, one of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve had to date. The sheer power of these cars is mind-blowing. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend you pop in and take one for a spin.
