- Fears
I’m afraid of heights. Like, very afraid. Whenever I’m on a plane I get nervous during take-off, and turbulence has me sweating profusely. So it seemed like a logical solution to jump out of a plane at 14,000 feet, because that was somehow going to help me overcome that fear.
It’s something that I always wanted to do as a way of facing my fears, but much later in life. However as luck would have it there were a few people from work going. I had let it slip that it was on my bucket list, and 24 hours later I’d booked and paid for it. 6 days later the wind was rushing past me as they opened the plane door.
And what a rush. Nothing will beat the unbelievable sensation of flying at the ground at 220 km/h. A truly mind-blowing experience. I’m not sure if I’ll do it again anytime soon, but I’d also be lying if I said I wouldn’t consider it at some point.
As an added bonus, I’m less afraid of flying now.
As part of the jump they made a video of the whole thing, so it’s possible to watch the hilarity of the experience on repeat, marvelling at the facial expressions I manage to create:
