Every Sunday morning I wake up, and the first thing I do is go to the PostSecret website. Started by Frank Warren, PostSecret is “an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard”.

I read through the 20-30 new secrets that get put up every Sunday without fail. Some of them are hilarious, some of them make your heart hurt, and some of them remind you of how incredible the human race can be. And then one day it occurred to me that I have my own secrets (as everybody does). I promised myself that I’d take something I was in denial about and put it on paper. I’d write it down and confront it.

I searched online for a postcard that I thought exemplified my secret and my feelings. Once it was delivered to my mailbox, I struggled for some time to actually write my secret on paper. But once I did, the relief I felt was overwhelming. I read it over and over, first in my mind and then out loud.

The experience was powerful, and I decided I’d also write the founder of PostSecret a personal message to along go with my postcard:
